You've likely been caught behind a bus on your way to a meeting or to pick up the kids.  Frustrating as that experience may be it also serves as a reminder of just how extensive the Phoenix Metropolitan bus system is.  It extends throughout the area inside the Loop 101, south of the I-10 and south into Chandler.

With so many buses on the road, naturally there are numerous bus shelters for people to wait for their ride.  At many of those locations the opportunity to advertise exists.  The beauty of bus shelter advertising is that you can target an area and maintain a captive audience at a fraction of the price to advertise on billboards.  Many locations around the valley have been successful utilizing bus shelters in this manner.

A few examples: 1) A pet resort in north central phoenix advertises on a bus shelter at the busy intersection near it's business effectively drawing clients who might not otherwise know about the location because it is behind a strip mall.  2) A restaurant on Camelback Rd. in Phoenix advertises on a bus shelter on Camelback less than an 1/8th of a mile before it's location helping to "feed" more diners to the restaurant.  3) Billboard Connection just helped a lighting company find two bus shelters north and south of it's location on Scottsdale Rd. in Scottsdale that will send customers to it's new store across the street.

Remember, bus shelters are not intended to target the bus riders, they are aimed at the traffic passing by and specifically at the traffic stopped near the shelters.  If you're business is located near a bus shelter, think about the possibilities of advertising on these effective out-of-home options!
